what that CRT do (body headcanons/reference)

★ i am not a mechanical engineer or appliance technician or anything like that, some of this is just plain not going to be true to life when it comes to analogous devices and that's fine because we're dealing with a magical TV man who can change size at will and grow flowers from the end of his nose that is also a part of his screen somehow ★
★ everything here is subject to change because i have unlimited power and can imagine anything ★
★ we're all here to have fun. we're just playing toys. please don't get mad ★
HEAD: outer casing is matte plastic, smooth on the face plate and very lightly textured everywhere else. vertical slats on either side vent excess heat; speakers are concealed on the underside.
- beneath the chassis in back (sort of equivalent to the nape of the neck) is a port panel: coax, composites, and power (no HDMI he's too old aw). the power cable is permanently affixed, and he also has a composite cable that is usually plugged in at all times (but can be removed if needed); he keeps both wrapped up and concealed along his spinal column, mainly to keep wayward or too-curious hands from yanking on them all willy-nilly (that hurts!! don't do it!!). if asked about his power cord, he will endeavor to keep its location a secret (that's private information!! don't do it!!).
- antennae are very VERY sensitive DO NOT TOUCH !!! except maybe for a very (VERY!) gentle pat on the round ends, that might be okay as long as he's not caught by surprise, but that is IT!!
- regarding his screen: his facial features, nose, mouth, teeth etc, are [vague hand gestures] magic, and generally only appear when he's set to regular (or higher) brightness. when he's trying to conserve energy (or sleeping, or extremely sad) he dims his screen until it goes completely dark, but he doesn't turn it completely off unless something is seriously wrong (extremely, EXTREMELY sad). color bars will appear if he sustains a serious shock to his system, be it mental/emotional or physical (see: the Roaring Knight), and persist until he has successfully recalibrated himself.
- when he is well and truly upset, he will start to cry real tears that leak out from between his screen and face plate. it's magic or something, don't worry about it
UPPER TORSO / CHEST: probably the most technologically complex part of him after his head???
- outer shell is the same textured plastic that makes up most of his head, supported by metal framework which houses lots of important circuitry and internal wiring.
- towards the bottom (about where the ribcage would end on a human body) is a VHS intake slot, oriented horizontally; the entirety of the actual VHS playback mechanism (the video head, spindles and reels, pulleys and shafts, etc) is a bit higher up, in the roomier part of his chest.
- on the upper RIGHT side of his chest plate are playback controls directly connected to his VHS mechanism: an assortment of buttons, and a volume dial connected to a speaker embedded in the LEFT side. the appearance of this speaker grille is a grouping of dots in a trapezoidal shape (but if you look closely, the only ones that pass sound all the way through are grouped in the shape of a heart).
- the plastic casing is all held together with screws, which can be undone and taken apart in various pieces if it becomes ABSOLUTELY necessary to get in there for repairs (the tape got jammed), or for maintenance. (he absolutely does not do regular maintenance on this particular part of himself are you kidding. there has got to be so much dust in there oh my god)
ABDOMEN: mainly just a series of vertical silicone panels (like a waist trainer (god he's so old)), stiff enough to maintain their shape but flexible enough to allow for all kinds of movement. these panels are held in place (and to each other) by snap fixtures, and can be removed individually or in connected pieces to get at all of the wiring inside for maintenance (again, not unless absolutely necessary. please don't look. please don't look).
LOWER TORSO / PELVIS: like the upper torso, mainly just a plastic shell over metal framework housing all the important wiring that makes his legs work, and can also be unscrewed in various pieces for maintenance access; unlike the upper torso, there isn't any vital circuitry or additional function to be found down here. (why? what did you THINK would be down here? what are YOU thinking about?)
LIMBS: arms and legs mainly consist of solid metal "bones" connected by silicone-enclosed joints and hydraulic tendons; wires and cabling run up and down the whole length from shoulder to hand, hip to foot, and are partially enclosed in more plastic casing which serves to shield them from snags and impacts.
- this casing is meant to be easily removed without additional tools in case something gets pulled loose or caught in a joint or something or other; as such it doesn't provide 100% coverage, and if his sleeves are rolled up it's easy to catch a glimpse of the wiring underneath.
NECK: almost never seen, as he tends to keep his shirt collar buttoned as high as it can possibly go. the situation here is similar to what's going on with his guts, but with significantly more moving parts: the whole thing is encased in flexible silicone, although this piece is somewhat thicker and much, much less easily removed. the only way to get in there at all without cutting it open (and don't you DARE) is to remove either the pieces of his chest or the outer casing of his head, as the attachment points at either end are concealed inside.
HANDS: no plastic, all metal and wiring, to allow for maximum flexibility and freedom of movement. retractable claws on each finger. he prefers to keep them covered with gloves at ALL times, not just to protect those very small and delicate joints, but also to protect his family-friendly image from any inadvertently exposed claws.
TAIL?: there is no tail. I'm sorry.
ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THE PELVIS: okay FINE everything down there is (‼️NSFW‼️) hot-swappable if he REALLY needs it to be but that is PRIVATE information!!!!! do NOT ask him about it!!!!! goodbye!!!!!
